Thomas Ray Witty

Thomas (Tom) Ray Witty, 72, Bainbridge, passed away January 8, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He was born to Otis and Mildred Witty (Brush) in Brazil, Indiana on March 1, 1948. He married Nancy (Gritton) Witty on February 3, 1968. Together they raised four children, Michael Witty (Bainbridge), Scott Witty (Bainbridge), Amanda (Mike) Mahoy (Bainbridge) and Joey Witty (Indianapolis). He has six grandchildren; Steven Witty, Kayla Mahoy, Sierra Witty, Cole Mahoy, Ashley Witty and Bryson Witty, and two great grandsons, Hunter and Jameson Mahoy. Tom worked for the Indiana State Highway Department, before he went to work at Midstates Wire until they closed in 1997. He went to Heidtman Steel before retiring in 2011 after he was diagnosed with cancer. He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; enjoying homecooked meals, sitting on his front porch with his loving wife and family, mowing the lawn, and working on projects in his garage. He always had a knack for making everyone that came into his home feel welcome. He was a devoted husband, father, and papa “old fart” as his grandchildren often called him. Tom is survived by his wife Nancy of 52 years, siblings Donna (Jim) Lasley (crawfordville), Ron (Julie) Witty (Avon), Sandy (Carlos) Shrewsbury (Greencastle) & sister-in-law Deborah (Ken) Alexander (Camas, WA). He is also survived by several nieces & nephews. tom was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Warren & Mary Eaton, father-in-law George Gritton & sister-in-law Gail Gritton. Visitation will be January 13, 2021 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle from 3-5:30. Private Graveside Service will be held at a later date at the Bainbridge Cemetery. CDC guidelines will be followed during the visitation. Memorial contributions can be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or Riley Hospital for Children.
