Velma Marie Borer

Our Lord called our dear Mother, Velma Marie Borer home on September 6, 2025, after a long, well lived life. Born on July 15, 1935, in Lodi, Indiana to Virgil and Virginia Adams. She wed Richard Borer on July 14, 1956. Marie was a true picture of Hoosier hospitality whose friendliness and kindness touched every soul she met.

Marie graduated from Greencastle High School in 1953. Marie attended and graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing with a degree as a registered nurse. She loved to tell the story of almost delivering a baby before the doctor arrived. Once her children arrived, she became a dedicated homemaker, raising her children, attending Annette’s horse shows and Brian and Kevin’s athletic events. Once the children were older, she returned to the medical field as a ward secretary from 1976 to 1993. Marie enjoyed gardening and maintaining her yard, trimming and weeding into her late eighties.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Annette Friend, Brian Borer (Donna), and Kevin Borer; her grandchildren, Brandon Friend (Ashley), Chad Friend (Danielle), Brittany Borer (Dana) and Noah Borer; great grandchildren, David Friend, Lily Friend, Olivia Friend, Abby Friend and Bowen Borer; her sisters, Wanda Hutchinson and Brenda Marlatt, many nieces and a nephew.

She will be welcomed into Heaven by her late husband, Richard Borer, her parents, her sister, Donna Faye Myers, brother, Jim Adams, a niece, Rhonda Myers and a nephew, Seth Marlatt, all who preceded her in death.

Marie’s memory will be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.

Visitation for Marie will be on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Services will follow at 6:00pm. Cremation will follow.
