She was born on February 1, 1928 in Dothan, Alabama. She was daughter of the late John and Annie Stephens. Addie was the second of six children, three have preceded her in death.
After graduating from high school she worked for NJ Bell Telephone Company. In 1950 she married the late Raymond F Jones. After raising her two daughters she attended William Paterson University in Paterson NJ and fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. After her graduation she taught in several elementary schools within the Englewood Public School System. She retired in 1989 to care for her mother.
Addie was a devoted mother to her two daughters and brought them up in the security of a happy home. She enjoyed the game of tennis and played well into her senior years. She always made time for a daily walk and even participated in the annual “Woman’s Only 5K Walk & Run” race well into her 80’s. She was an excellent cook and it was always a treat to be invited over for dinner.
Addie was a generous person and had genuine love for her family and her friends. She was always ready to assist when someone was in need. From childhood she was taught the importance of living a godly life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the early years of her married life. She set high goals for herself and set a good example for her family to follow. She will be dearly missed by those who knew, and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Annie Stephens. Her husband Raymond Jones , her brothers, John and Walter Stephens and her sister Elizabeth Frederickson.
She is survived by her brother Robert Stephens and her sister Ozzie Stephens Bussey. Her daughters Brenda McNeil and Pamela Woodard. Her five grandchildren
Preston McNeil IV , Nicole Smith , Lisa McNeil , Lori McNeil and Dana Evans. Her four great grandchildren Jacob and Noah Smith and Chloe and Regan Evans as well as her many nieces and nephews.
