

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 8, at College Park Baptist Church. The Reverend Mark Brainerd will officiate and the interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, December 7, at Hanes Lineberry, North Elm Street Chapel.
Mrs. Joyner was born June, 18, 1918 on the family farm in Albemarle County, VA, to the late John Stanley and Maude Shackelford Dawson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry W. Joyner, and her grandson Donald (“Skipper”) Joyner. She is survived by her daughter Anne Joyner Vaughan of Greensboro; son Donald W. Joyner and his wife Barbara of Chesterfield, VA; sister Margaret S. Dawson of Blacksburg, VA; granddaughter Steffanie Vaughan and her husband Allen Sutphin of Greensboro; grandson Navy Commander Patrick Scott Joyner and his wife Rhonda of Sneads Ferry, NC; great-grandchildren Erik, Matthew, Adam, William, Jordan, Audrey, Maggie, Noah, Laurel Anna and Mary M’Cheyne.
Mrs. Joyner was an active member of College Park Baptist Church, which she and Mr. Joyner joined in 1959. She taught in the Primary Department, and then served as teacher of the Adult Sunday School class for 30 years. She visited shut-ins, providing them with meals and reading materials.
She and her husband lived in Richmond, VA, where she worked for the City of Richmond’s Finance Department. Upon moving to Greensboro, Mrs. Joyner was employed in the Records Division for the Greensboro Police Department from 1959 to 1983.
Her friend and assistant Sharon Haas lovingly provided companionship, prepared meals and helped with her care. Sharon’s vivacious personality brought much joy and laughter into Mrs. Joyner’s life for the past seven years.
Mrs. Joyner was a principled person whose integrity was evident in both her church and community life. She demonstrated strength, courage, conviction and grace every day.
The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of the Northwest and Greensboro Kidney Centers for their compassion and loving care given to Mrs. Joyner over the past eight years.
