Alberta Hairston age 86, of Greensboro NC and formerly of Cincinnati Ohio, passed away on November 29, 2023. Ms. Hairston was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a graduate of the Our Lady of Angels High School (1956). After her daughter Susan graduated from Bennett College in 1988, Alberta enrolled as an adult student. She graduated from Bennett College 1994. She then earned her Masters of Pastoral Studies from Loyola University in 2002.
Alberta spent her life working with young adults. During her career she was the Center Director of the YWCA of Cincinnati, Residence Director-Bennett College and the Catholic Campus Minister for Thea House serving Bennet College and NC A&T. Additionally she spent countless volunteer hours with her local parish, The Diocese of Charlotte and the NC Councils of Churches.
Alberta is survived by a son Ed Davis, niece Teresa Louis aka Terrie, nephew Anthony Louis, 5 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Hairston, brother, Paul Louis, mother, Elizabeth Penman Coughlin and nephew, Michael Louis.
Alberta had a gift of finding family. She leaves behind her honorary grandchildren Annette, Arnold and Arianne Ouedraogo, “adopted” children Rasmata Ouedraogo, Angie Carr, Krisan Walker and Brian Sutton as well as a host of children and grandchildren from Thea House and her St Pius the X Church family. She was grateful that in her 80’s she was able to be reunited with her son Ed.
A visitation will be held at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 5-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday December 15, 2023 at 2 P.M. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment to follow at a later date in the Vine Street Cemetery, Cincinnati OH.
