
His life will be celebrated in a memorial service this Friday, July 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM at First Lutheran Church located on Friendly Ave. in Greensboro.
Al was born in Nuremberg, Germany on August 18, 1923 to John and Katherine Vaeth. Life’s path relocated Al in New York City at age 13 where he eventually met his soul mate for 65 years, Anne Vaeth. Al and Anne became naturalized citizens of the United States. Al served in the US ‘Army 8th Air Force’ in the European Theater during WWII. Upon return from his military commitments, he attended and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from NYU.
Al and Anne relocated to Greensboro in 1950, where Al successfully practiced his profession in Mechanical Engineering with Western Electric for 42 years. Al and Anne raised a family of three boys.
Al is survived by his wife Anne, son John (his wife Nancy, daughter Jessica and their grandson Dean Watts of Slidell, LA), son Richard (his wife Sheila and son David of Raleigh, NC), and son Ronald (his wife Dawn, daughter Ashley and son Tucker of Clayton, NC).
Al’s true loves were his family, church, bowling friends and numerous personal relationships he developed in the City of Greensboro that he witnessed grow around him during these years.
The Vaeth Family will receive friends during a reception following services at First Lutheran.
Anne has requested that contributions may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, or First Lutheran’s Worship and Music Fund.
