A resident of this area all of his life, Al was born on May 16, 1931 in Montgomery County, NC, a son to the late Shelton and Teesa Greene Harris. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. For over 32 years, he mentored and coached little league baseball in Greensboro. Al also worked as a Sales Manager in the trucking industry. On a wintry day in downtown Greensboro, Al’s life was changed forever after he threw a snow ball at a young lady named Lou. Lou and Al later wedded and shared over 63 wonderful years of marriage. Most of all, Al was committed to providing for his family, always putting them first.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by two sisters, Merthel and Lois; two brothers, Buel and William; and beloved dog and companion, Bear.
Surviving are his wife, Lou Wyatt Harris of the home; three sons, Alvis Wesley “Wes” Harris, Jr. and wife Lisa of Greensboro, Edward “Eddie” Harris and wife Barbara of Greensboro, and John Deland Harris and wife Jennifer of Oak Island; three grandchildren, Katie Kroustalis and husband Gus, Matthew Harris, and Nicholas Harris; and four great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Alex, Reid, and Ella.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2 pm Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Eugene Dean officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
