Ann resided in New Bern for most of her life. For many years, Ann worked as the office manager for the CPA firm of McGladrey Pullen. Ann was a founding member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Bern. She loved her church and often referred to it as her second home. Ann had an infectious laugh and zest for living. Her quick sense of humor was enjoyed by everyone. Ann loved her family and especially enjoyed special times shared at Emerald Isle. Her last few years were spent closer to her family in Greensboro. No matter where she lived, Ann radiated joy and warmth.
Ann was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Patrick Merritt Herring, Jr.; her sisters, Arlene Whitley and Linda Schrock; and a brother, Bill Marslender. Ann is survived by three sons, Patrick Merritt Herring III and wife, (Amy), of Knotts Island, NC; Greg Herring and wife, (Michelle), of Greensboro, NC; Paul Herring and wife, (Jackie), of Rose Hill, NC; six grandchildren, Patrick Herring, IV (Leah), Stephanie Herring (Bryan Ferrick), Stacy Herring, Susanne Herring, Ann Marie Tullock (Justin), and Megan Greer; four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Ellen Marslender of El Paso, TX.
A memorial service will be held at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Greensboro at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Following the service, the family will receive guests.
