Funeral services will be held graveside at Guilford Memorial Park at 3pm on Saturday January 30, 2021 with Rev. Kelley Groce officiating.
Ann was born in Greensboro, NC on December 21, 1929 to the late Herbert S. Johnson and Nellie DeShazo Johnson. She was a graduate of Curry High in Greensboro and the Women’s College (currently UNCG). She worked for Jefferson Pilot and over 20 years at Burlington Industries Corporate Office in Greensboro.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband James D. Overbey Jr. who were married over sixty years, brother Herbert S. Johnson Jr. and grandson Noah Tucker Overbey. She is survived by her sons, James D. Overbey III and wife Mary Mullinix Overbey and Kenneth Gray Overbey and wife Elizabeth Odom Overbey, all of Greensboro, NC; grandson Gray Vance Overbey, granddaughters, Carlyle Elizabeth Overbey; Anna Jane Overbey; sister in law Jean Overbey Farabee; and brother in law Cecil Ellis Overbey.
Ann loved spending time with her husband as “snowbirds” between their home in Greensboro and in Titusville, Florida where family and friends visited over the winter months. She adored her grandchildren who will always cherish the memories they have of their Maw Maw teaching them to play cards and celebrating the Fourth of July at Emerald Isle. Her expression for life, and adopted by the family, is “Striving for Improvement”.
