Ann passed away quietly on October 22, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, and remained active in her community. She was 95.
Born in Middletown, NY, to Walter Powers and Gertrude (Cooney) Powers, Ann grew up in Palisades Park, NJ, alongside her younger brother (Skip). She established many friendships with neighborhood children, several of which she maintained throughout her life. She started her career working in New York City, but life had other plans. She met her future husband, Frank Sestak, through a mutual friend. They were married in 1957 and started their family in New Jersey.
In 1968, Frank started a new job in Boston, MA, and Ann took on the responsibility of locating a new home for the family. They settled in Sharon, MA, where they remained for 53 years and raised five children. In 2021, Ann and Frank moved to Greensboro, NC, and immediately began making new acquaintances.
Grounded in her Catholic faith, Ann always enjoyed meeting people with a kind smile and a friendly greeting. She felt strongly about helping others, either through church service or community events. Outside of her family, she was most proud of her years of volunteer work with the Visiting Moms program while living in Sharon, MA. She was a remarkable lady and will be remembered fondly.
Ann is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother. She leaves behind her five children and nine grandchildren, Jane Brazeau (Paul) of Greensboro, NC, their children, Michael, Andrew and Mia; Peter Sestak (Roberta Roberts) of Decatur, GA; Mark Sestak (Kim) of Mansfield, MA, their children, Kaitlyn, Kristen and Mike; Ted Sestak (Kathy) of Nyack, NY and their children, Jack, Kevin and Matthew; and Nancy Sestak (Erik Wilkinson) of Atlanta, GA.
Ann’s legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren, and she will be remembered with love by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 31 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2210 North Elm Street, Greensboro, followed by interment at Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery, 616 South Cherry Street, Kernersville.
