Annie was born on February 3, 1931, in Stanly Co., NC, to the late John P. Furr and Etter Eury Furr. After school, Annie went to work as a Seamstress, to which she dedicated over 60 years of life. Throughout her life, she was known for her generosity, work ethic, wit, and deep-seated love for her family. She enjoyed reading the newspaper, sewing, people watching, working and found great joy in loving her animals, “piddling”, watching they Humming birds, (or as she called them, “Homeny birds”), and just being with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John P. Furr and Etter Eury Furr; her husband, whom she loved greatly and missed dearly, William Shuford Hurlocker; her 12 siblings, Claude Furr, Perry Furr, Walter Furr, Robert Furr, Fred Furr, Madie Harvel, Liddie Russ, Rudy Dry, Lena Adams, Bessie O’Brien, Birdie Holman, and Ruth Hurlocker; and her eldest daughter, Irene Bishop.
Those left to cherish her memory include her middle and youngest daughters, MaryAnn Bush and Alice Jenkins; her favorite feline companion, Tommy (the cat); grandchildren and their spouses, William Havis (Heather), Jennifer Hippert (Jacob), and Lisa Hall (Chris); great-grandchildren and their spouses, Tristan Havis, Carly Spriggs (Kalin), Alexis Hall, Kailyn Gallimore, Abigail Hall, Sequoia Havis, Isabel Hall, and Asher Hippert; great great-grandchildren, Kai’Ryn Spriggs, Ellorie Stanley, Ila Dobson, Weston Denning, and Coe’ynn Spriggs; her dear friend, Mrs. Jean, whom she worked beside for nearly 40 years; and other extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital for their compassion and support during this time of immense loss.
Annie, Granny to us, was the Matriarch of our family, the eldest of five generations. She loved fiercely, worked hard every day of her life, and had overcome much more than anyone person should have had to in one’s lifetime. She poured every ounce of herself into the generations that came from her. Granny, now united with her siblings, parents, eldest daughter, and husband, is already so deeply missed. Her name and stories will be told for generations to come. Until we see you in Heaven, Granny, we love and miss you.
