Anthony (Tony) Thompson Rabun, 55, beloved husband, dad, papa, and friend died Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Hospice Home in High Point. Son of the late James Robert Rabun, Jr, and Janice Annette Thompson, Tony was born January 24, 1963 in Macon, Georgia during a snowstorm. Tony is survived by wife and partner in life’s adventure, Kim Yarbray. He is also survived by his brother Rob (Melissa), children Tommy, Patrick (Jodie) and Kristi Blake. He leaves behind five beautiful grandchildren who were like sunshine in his life. Tony graduated Northside High School in Warner Robins and went immediately into the U.S. Navy where he served our country for six years. He went on to work a variety of jobs where he learned everything he could about being a carnival worker, a butcher, a printing press operator, and finally making his way to computer programming. He remained employed by Dell, Inc until the end of his life.
Tony was a voracious learner and frequently lapsed into German when coming out of anesthesia. He listened to lectures in his sleep. He knew words for things people didn’t know there were words for. He was silly beyond measure and made infants flail happy arms and legs at his presence. Children recognized him as a fellow kid because he played and told excessively bad jokes. Dogs recognized him too, one dog to another. When walking in a park, they would come from everywhere to be petted.
Tony was a generous spirit who loved his family and his family very much. The last fourteen months of his life, grace and gratitude were constant companions. He was courageous in facing fear and was a fighter until his last breath. He will be missed every day.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 8 at 8:30am at Christ United Methodist Church followed by Celebration of Life at 9:30am and interment at Guilford Memorial Park at 11:00am. Interment will be followed by a snowstorm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of the Piedmont or Christ United Methodist Church Glenwood ministry.
