

Anthony Lawrence Reaves was born on December 30, 1952, to the late Herbert and Idella Ivy Reaves in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Mary Reaves, after the death of his mother at an early age. Anthony attended public schools in Newark, NJ, attended St. Emmas Military Academy and graduated from Weequahic High School graduated from Barber-Scotia College (Concord, NC) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a minor in History. He played drums in school and professionally with the Soulistics of Concord, NC, and The Seventh of May (Newton-Conover)
Anthony grew up in Trinity United Methodist Church in Jersey City, NJ. He later united with Holmes Grove United Methodist Church under the Rev. Paul Milton, where he married Darlene Greenlee in 1982. At Holmes Grove UMC, “Reaves” served in numerous capacities, including the inspirational choir, where he sang and played the drums; the Men’s Choir; the United Methodist Men; and the Trustees. His life has been filled with service; pastimes included working in the garden at Holmes Grove UMC and at the Hayes-Taylor YMCA. He worked as a Respiratory Therapist for 44 years, serving at the following hospitals: College Hospital, Beth-Israel, Humana, Women’s Kindred Hospital, and High Point Regional Hospital, where he retired. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Fernand.
His memory is cherished by his loving wife of 44 years, Darlene Greenlee Reaves, of the home; daughter, LaTasha Greenlee Dawson (Charles) of Garner, NC; two grandchildren, Myles and Gwendolyn Dawson; goddaughters Cindy Blackman, Daye Poinsettia, and Savannah Hawkins, brother, William Reaves; Sister Mary Lee Burnet and Sisters and Brothers-in-law, Mary Holt, Phyllis Greenlee, Emma Greenlee, David Greenlee, III (Stacy), George Greenlee, and Barbara Booker (Derek); nephew, Philip Reaves (Bruce), honorary Nephew, BJ Hawkins, special friend, Leondias “LC” Smith, Sr., and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
