

Barbara Jean Norman, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 2, 1941, in Surry County, North Carolina.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Billy R. Norman, Sr., daughter, Beverly Carruthers, sister, Ruby Lloyd; and parents, Roy Lee Nixon and Tessie Inez Spicer.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Tom) Ballantine and Barbara Ann Ashby (fiancé, Buck); son, Billy (Michelle) Norman, Jr.; and son-in-law, David Carruthers.
She also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Mallory Everette, Cam (Caitlin) Carruthers, Ben (Amanda) Carruthers, Dustin Norman, Matthew Ashby, Ashli (Angel) Guzman, and Ryan (Sarah) Ashby.
Barbara was blessed with sixteen beloved great-grandchildren: Malachi, Makayla, Eleanor, Kyleigh, Waylon, Caroline, William, Cooper, Grey, Vanden, Ren, Dakota, Sophia, Yadiel, Ember, and Callum.
She is also survived by her sisters: Joyce Lloyd, Scotty Wagner, Lesa Eldridge, Anita Upright, and Fredia Bradshaw.
Barbara was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Most of all, she treasured her role as “Memaw” and “Mawmaw,” a title that brought her immense joy and pride.
She attended Mountain Park School in Surry County and dedicated many years to her career, first with Bates Nitewear and later with Market America, where she worked for more than ten years before retiring.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal services will be held.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Pancreatic Cancer Research through the American Cancer Society or to The Cancer Center at Wesley Long Hospital in Barbara's memory.
Barbara's love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
