

.Bernard William Johnston, 84, passed away on Friday, April 29th, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bernard was born on August 8, 1931 in Princeton, WVA, the son of Frank and Nina Warren Johnston. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired after 20 years of service. Following his military service, he worked with Clark Forklift of Virginia and then retired from Hoechst Chemical.
He enjoyed gardening and bowling. Bernard was a member of Deep River Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Russell Johnston, Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Marleen McDaniel Johnston; children, Michael Johnston and wife Debra of Winnabow, NC, Tim Johnston and wife Karen of Sophia, NC, Kathleen A. Walters of Greensboro, NC, Patrick Johnston of Chesapeake, VA, Mark S. Johnston of Norfolk, VA, Therese Freeman of Greensboro, NC; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel and entombment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 t0 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
