Rick was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Anne Marie Beavan, and his two daughters, Theresa O’Leary and Julie Pardue. He was a proud grandfather to Tucker O’Leary and Adam Pardue, and a loving father-in-law to William Pardue. Rick’s family was the joy of his life, and his happiest moments were those spent with them.
Rick was born on July 6, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to Bernard Stanton Beavan and Edith Farrell. He grew up in Rockville, Maryland, alongside his brothers Larry and Joseph. Music was central to their lives, and the three brothers formed a band called The Rubber Band, where Rick played the organ.
Rick met his wife Anne in D.C., who was then working as a teacher and Rick working for his father at Weber White. Their love story would grow into a lifelong partnership.
Rick earned a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Maryland. His professional life was marked by dedication and integrity. He and Anne spent wonderful years in Portland, Oregon, before moving to Greensboro, North Carolina, where he worked for Volvo Trucks. Rick spent 19 years as an Engineer for Volvo and later enjoyed a rewarding 20-year career at White’s International, where he found not only meaningful work but also lasting friendships. He retired in December 2024, grateful for the colleagues who had become like family.
Outside of work, Rick loved fishing, woodworking, vacationing at the beach, and dining with friends and family. He was a proud member of the Piedmont Fishing Club and could often be found on the water with friends or tinkering in his workshop. He enjoyed watching his daughters play sports and instruments when they were younger. But nothing brought him more happiness than time with his grandsons. Whether it was tractor rides, boat rides, or simply being together, Rick poured his heart into creating memories that his family will cherish forever. He also had a lifelong love for dogs and leaves behind his faithful companion, Buddy.
Rick will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the deep love he gave to those around him. He was a devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner at St. Pius X, where his faith guided his life and gave him strength and comfort in his battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Rick’s memory to Collie Rescue of the Carolinas (3227 Swaim Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, EIN 03-0384586) or Hospice of the Piedmont (1801 Westchester Dr, High Point, NC 27262, EIN 58-1453827).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2210 North Elm Street. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Lawndale Drive for anyone who would like to join, but with no obligation. Beginning at noon, family and friends are invited to gather for a light reception at the Lake Jeanette Marina, 5026 Bass Chapel Road, to share memories and celebrate Rick’s life.
