Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful daughter. She enjoyed fostering children from 1978-1983 despite having three children already. She maintained a strong enduring friendship with her “nurseketeers”; Sandy, BJ, and Jean from Watts School of Nursing class of 1965. Betty was active in church through the years as a nursery worker, teaching Sunday School, teaching children’s choir, being a member of Senior Adult ladies choir, handbells, and singing in the community choir. She loved playing the piano all her life. Betty enjoyed visiting Senior Adult facilities and sending cards to many for all occasions. Betty supported the Urban Ministry in every city in which she lived. She enjoyed shopping with her granddaughters each year for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. The Christmas season was filled with baking gingerbread cookies and sharing them with family, friends, neighbors, and mail carriers.
Betty and Kerry cherished their walks through the Bicentennial and Bog Gardens in Greensboro where they have a brick with their names engraved on it. Since 1995, she treasured the annual family beach trips to Ocean Isle Beach and created many memories for the entire family. Betty was an avid gardener and always had flowers and plants, birdbaths and bird feeders wherever she lived.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the AuthoraCare Hospice home team of Sam, Andrea, Hilary and Debbie. Also, to Beacon Place for their gentle loving care of Betty for 13 days. She passed away peacefully early afternoon on Monday, January 24th, after a seven and a half year battle with ovarian cancer. She stayed true to her faith and was a testimony to all she encountered on how to handle suffering. Betty maintained a wonderful attitude and her smile never waivered.
Betty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Kerry Eggleston; her daughters, Kammy Burch and Kari (Dusty) Soots and son, Brian Eggleston; grandchildren, Tyler (Krysta) Soots, Hannah Soots, Connor Burch, Colton Burch, and Emma Soots.
