Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 53 years, Larry Tilley; son, Steven Brian Tilley; grandchildren, Emery Maddox Johnson and Brooklyn Taggert; sister, Bonnie Cagle, Peggy S. Averette, and Anneita S. Minor; her favorite loving and constant canine companion, her yellow lab, “Maggie”; and other extended family and friends.
Betty was born on April 17, 1950, in Randolph County, to the late Howard Franklin Snider and Margaret Parker Snider. She graduated from Farmer High School in 1968 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Guilford College in 1972. In that same year, she married the love of her life, Larry Tilley, on December 23, 1972. After receiving her degree, Betty worked for Burlington Industries until 1991, then she went to work for High Point Chemical until 1996. From there, Betty went on to work for Apollo Chemical until 2006 and later went on to work at Huntsman International, from which she retired in 2019. Even though Betty enjoyed her career, she also enjoyed her down time. Betty and Larry loved their time at Smith Mountain Lake, and she was an avid Carolina fan. Back when Greensboro’s big golf tournament was called the GGO (Greater Greensboro Open), Betty was honored to hold the chairman position for the Jaycetts. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy C. Snider.
A graveside service, celebrating her life, will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Westminster Gardens Cemetery, 3601 Whitehurst Road, Greensboro, NC 27410.
