Betty Dean Byrd Wallen passed away September 8, 2020 after years of declining health. She was 85. A service to celebrate her life will be at 2 PM, Sunday, September 13 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Bishop George W. Brooks officiating. Interment will be in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1 PM. Betty was born in Johnston County to the late Dewitt and Nellie Lee Byrd. After meeting Billy Gene Wallen on a blind date, they married in 1966 and shared a wonderful life together until his death in 2012. She is remembered as always smiling and the life of the party. Betty was a talkative and happy person who wasn’t afraid to laugh at herself. She enjoyed all types of music and loved to dance. Her children and grandchildren were the joys in her life and nothing made her happier than the entire family gathered around the table. Betty was a woman of great faith and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Casey and Sharon Wallen of Winston-Salem, Bobby and Linda Sledge of Lexington, SC, Diane and Gary Parsons of Wallburg and Paige and Michael Morris of Kernersville; grandchildren, Travis (Erin), Brittney (Johnny), Robbie, Shelby, Chase, Jordan and William; great grandchildren, Brady, Charlotte and Emma; sisters, Rebecca Morton of Jamestown and Janie Perry of Knightdale; and sister-in-law, June Byrd of Wendell. In addition to her parents and husband, her brother, Dewitt Byrd, Jr. preceded her in death. Betty’s children would like to thank the staff of Pennybyrn at Maryfield for their kindness and care during her residency. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Pennybyrn at Maryfield, 1315 Greensboro Road, High Point, NC 27262. We first met Betty at Pennybyrn where her beautiful smile and joyful laugh and stories brightened every day. She was a joy and made the McEwen House feel so pleasant. Her love of her family and her kind, generous spirit were so apparent. She touched our family and all whom she met. What a perfect example of how one person can make such a positive difference in the lives of many. She will be missed.
With loving thoughts to all of you at this difficult time.

All I can offer is my most sincere condolences for the loss of your sweet mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her joyful and humorous spirit was a blessing to all who came in contact with her. She truly was the life of every party and no one could help but fall in love with her! Everyone knew and loved Ms. Betty and it has been an honor to care for her and to welcome your family to our's. Our prayers are with you all for joy and peace. That is what she would want for her family. She is sorely missed and never forgotten. Can we even imagine a world where everyone had her joy and laughter? What a world it would be. Much love to all. Janet

We have so many good memories with Bill and Betty. We cherish their friendship for many years. Bill and George were friends before Bill married Betty. We travel with them tothe beach fishing, the mountains walking the swinging bridge, to Jefferson on the New River and so many more. Her laughter was contagious. Such a wonderful friend. She will be missed. Sorry we cant attend the services but know you all understand. Love ALL OF YOU.

Diane and family you are all in our prayers. We loved Betty and are going to miss her bunches. I will always remember her sweet spunky spirit and enjoyed planting flowers, birthday parties, painting her fingernails while listening to Jailhouse Rock and other Elvis songs. Your mother had a sweet spirit I will always remember!!!!Heaven absolutely gained an angel!!!
