Bettye Lou Chandler was born March 26, 1934 in High Point, North Carolina to Charles and Thelma Scoggins Chandler. She passed away on September 27, 2022 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina following a long illness. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Chandler, her mother, Thelma Scoggins Chandler Burr, her infant son, Anthony Murdock and her brother, Charles (Charlie) Chandler, Jr. She is survived by her three daughters, Angela VanKatwyk, Linda Carr (David) and Laura Fox (Jeff); two sons, Clifton Oehler and Clark Oehler; one sister, Beth Davis (Dan); two grandchildren, Brittain Mehler (David) and Chandler Knight; four great grandchildren, Gray Mehler, Alston Mehler, Cameron Mehler and Preston Mehler. She worked in the Pharmacy and Retail Sales industries, but her primary beloved occupation was always Mom. Born in the Great Depression, at six years old she decided to take a load off of her grandmother and find a home for her family. An ever present helper, as a child, she assisted her grandmother and mother in running a boarding house to survive the economy. There are many stories. The underlying theme was "small person goes over mountains, through mountains or around mountains, getting to the other side." The deepest commission of her life was to raise and treasure her children. Her spark, quest for knowledge, beauty and commitment to her family will never be forgotten. Adversity never stopped her. Even in this last battle with sickness, she was fiercely fighting underneath. A celebration of her life will be held on October 7, 2022, 1:00 pm in the Chapel at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel/Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 W Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Cancer Society in her memory. Online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberryfhsedgefield.com.
