August 9, 1931 – June 19, 2024
Greensboro, NC: Mr. Billy ‘Bill’ Dermot Yarbrough, of Greensboro, died on June 19, 2024. He was born August 9, 1931 in Lexington, North Carolina and was the son of the late Velna Koontz and Oscar Dermot Yarbrough. His childhood was spent in Lexington where he graduated from Lexington Senior High School. In February of 1951, Bill joined the Navy serving four years during the Korean War primarily aboard the USS Navasota.
After his military service, Bill attended Appalachian State Teachers College studying business and accounting. While there he met and married his wife Gladys Hill Eastridge on August 20, 1955. They were married for 55 wonderful years before her passing in 2011. Bill worked as an accountant with Western Electric/AT&T for 30 years.
After moving from Lexington to Greensboro in the early 1970’s, Bill and Gladys were heavily involved in leading the youth in PYF at Vandalia Presbyterian Church for many years. Bill was proud to be a Mason, a current member of First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro and the “Young Men’s Sunday School Class”. He was also a member of the Guilford Courthouse chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. His greatest joys were spending time with family and learning of the many activities and successes of his grandchildren.
