Bob was born in North Wilkesboro, NC on July 27, 1943 and was one of three sons born to the late Rex Coolidge and Alma Dillard Bumgarner. He graduated from Guilford College in 1967. Bob and Greer were married in Greensboro in 1969. Bob was employed with Lowe’s Companies in North Wilkesboro for 27 years. After retiring, he and Greer returned to Greensboro to reside.
With his charming smile, knack for conversation and deep sense of integrity, Bob made immediate, lifelong friends upon introduction. His quick wit and unwavering positive nature brightened so many days for family, friends and strangers alike. Bob loved the outdoors, fly fishing and golfing. As an avid reader, Bob enjoyed wowing others with his trivia knowledge.
Surviving Bob is his wife Greer of 48 years; his daughter Dee Bumgarner Campbell and husband David of Charlotte; his son Will Bumgarner and wife Samantha of Charlotte; five grandchildren Greer, Griffin and Rebecca Campbell and Clara and Rex Bumgarner; his two brothers Bill and Donald Bumgarner and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with Reverend Ginny Bain Inman and Reverend Russell Ingersoll officiating. 607 Greene St, Greensboro, NC 27401. Following the service the family will visit with friends in the church’s Haywood Duke Room.
