Nursing Home. She had served on Pennybyrn'sAdvisory Board for many years.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years,
J. Hyatt Hammond, in December of 2017.
Born to Anita and Preston Burge of Asheboro, N.C.
Bonnie graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago
in Interior Design and went on to do graduate study
in the arts at Sorbonne University, Paris, with classes
at the Louvre.
After their marriage at the American Cathedral of the Holy
Trinity in Paris, wedding reception at Paris's private
Union Interalliée Club, and 3-month honeymoon
in Europe, the Hammonds went on to build a life-long
creative partnership together at J. Hyatt Hammond Associate
Architects, Inc., Architects/Engineers/Planners, first
in Asheboro, then in Greensboro.
As artistically talented as she was beautiful, Bonnie
collaborated with her husband Hyatt, a former N.C. AIA
President and AIA Fellow, on many award-winning
commercial and residential architectural projects
throughout North Carolina, and on their second homes
in Asheville, N.C., Jupiter and Sarasota, Florida.
The Hammonds loved to travel but found time to also
be involved in community affairs in Greensboro, where they
were members of the Sedgefield Country Club. They
attended the First Methodist Church while living in
Asheboro.
Along with her passion for art and antiques, Bonnie loved
to read and was a member of several N.C. Book Clubs.
Bonnie is survived by her sister Brenda Burge de Suze
of Potomac, Maryland; brother Robert A. Burge
of Asheboro, N.C.; and many cousins, nieces and
nephews from the Burge, Cecil and Payne families.
It was Bonnie's desire that memorials be made to:
