The Lord called Bryce Patrick Scallan home on August 3, 2014 at the age of 25. He was born October 25, 1988 in Shreveport, LA, the son of Craig and Mary (Smith) Scallan. He was baptized and raised in the Catholic Faith.
He moved to Greensboro, North Carolina at the age of 5 with his parents, Craig and Mary. Joining them were his sisters Amber and April, along with his brother, Ross.
He attended Ragsdale High School and was a member of the football, track, and wrestling teams and enjoyed singing and dancing with the Rhythm and Rhapsody Show Choir. Bryce was a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 17 of Jamestown, North Carolina. He had a talent for expressing himself through music and lyrics. He LOVED being outdoors; camping, fishing, and hunting. He found fun and excitement at the beach and was even able to make it for a visit in April. He had a passion for Mixed Martial Arts and most recently snowboarding.
One of the greatest joys in Bryce’s life was becoming a Dad. He beamed with pride when asked about his daughter Mackenzie, 8 and son Hunter, 4. He played an active role in both of their lives during the past months, spending Sunday “Fun” days with Mackenzie and celebrating Hunter’s 4th Birthday Party.
Bryce loved his friends, all of them. He was surrounded by so many people who loved him. What would his friends say about him? He answered to “Skilly” and wore his “Skilly” hat proudly. They would say that Bryce had a great big heart and would give them the shirt off his back if they needed it. They would say that Bryce had a warm smile and after listening to them was actually practicing smiling with his teeth showing. They would say Bryce could charm the skin off a snake! He was the only successful getaway of the “Jamestown 7.” They would say Bryce was SO funny and had a great sense of humor! He was polite, smart, friendly and helpful. They would say Bryce was also competitive and strong willed. And Yes, Bryce reigned as Number 1 laser tag champion, despite the tireless efforts of his friends to overthrow his ranking. Bryce was cool and easy to be around. He was passionate. They would say Bryce loved football and that he was a HUGE fan of the LSU tigers. He made sure that both of his children wore the purple and gold attire and how much he loved his children and family.
Bryce will be remembered lovingly by his family: Parents Craig and Mary Scallan of Greensboro; sister Amber Scallan Hoover, her husband Chris Hoover and two sons Brody (5) and Parker (2); sister April Scallan Stewart, husband Brian Stewart and two children Braeden (4) and Leena (2); and brother Ross Scallan and wife Carrie Scallan; daughter Mackenzie Swartz-Scallan(8) and mother Lauren Swartz and son Hunter Scallan(4) and mother Jessica Burton.
