Camilla Eckard Moffitt passed away peacefully on December 30, 2022 at the age of 91. She was born on March 18, 1931 in Charlotte, NC to Joyce Franklin Eckard and Prudence Queen Eckard. Camilla spent most of her youth in Charlotte and attended Catawba College.
While on a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC, Camilla met the love of her life, Bill Moffitt. They were married on August 16, 1958 and celebrated their love for each other for over 64 years. They were blessed with a daughter, Patti and a son, Pete.
The Moffitt family made their home in Charlotte, NC, Asheboro, NC, Cleveland, OH and Red Oak, IA but when retiring, moved back to Charlotte, NC. At every stop along the way, Bill and Camilla were blessed with priceless friends and many happy memories. While in Charlotte, they enjoyed being active members of Myers Park Baptist Church.
Camilla loved keeping an extensive vegetable garden and working in the yard. In the summer months, the family would always enjoy fresh lettuce, okra, tomatoes and cucumbers to name a few. She and Bill also took pride in their extensive rose garden and spent countless hours pruning and selecting just the right variety to plant. She always had fresh flowers from her yard in the house and was a pro at arranging them!
Sports was an integral part of their life together. She and Bill loved attending Wake Forest football and basketball games and were Deacon Club Members for over 60 years. Tennis was a major part of the Moffitt household and Bill and Camilla were founding members of Olde Providence Racquet Club in Charlotte and were instrumental in its development and growth. Camilla was a very accomplished tennis player and played USTA throughout her life. She and Bill often traveled to tennis tournaments including attending Wimbledon and the French Open.
Spending time at Garden City Beach, SC is a long-standing Moffitt tradition and Camilla loved the annual family trips. Walking to the Point, hunting for sharks’ teeth, sitting on the beach and “Wine Time” with her Homeowner friends brought her many hours of enjoyment. As you watched Bill and Camilla walk hand in hand on the beach, anyone could plainly see the deep love and admiration they had for each other.
Camilla was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Peter Kenneth Moffitt. She is survived by her adoring husband, Bill Moffitt; daughter, Patti Moffitt Stavrolakis; son-in-law, Alex Stavrolakis; and daughter-in-law, Susan Gunter Moffitt (Joe Carroll) of Greensboro, NC; her grandchildren, Allie Stavrolakis (Philip Casey) of Washington, DC, Christopher Stavrolakis of Denver, CO; Hastings Moffitt and Mary Layton Moffitt of Charlotte, NC, and sister-in-law, Jean Fuller Moffitt Reavis of College Station, Texas.
