Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Greensboro, Chip was the son of the late John Thomas Dawson Jr. and Helen “Snibs” Dawson. He is survived by his brother, John Thomas Dawson III (“Tommy”), and sister, Katherine Blaha (“Cricket”). He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Beth Dawson.
Chip’s passion for Scouting led him to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, fostering a lifelong love of God and country. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Sonar Technician Second Class. He was a 1973 graduate of Grimsley High School, later earning a B.S. in Operations Management from UNC Greensboro and a Master’s in Computer Information Systems from the University of Phoenix.
He worked at Gilbarco before joining RF Micro Devices (later Qorvo), where he retired in 2017. Chip had a passion for computers, history, and his dogs.
Services will be held in Greensboro, NC in April, 2026 (details to follow at a later date). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, a local animal rescue, or a charity of choice.
