Greensboro, NC: Carolyn Hutaff Hoffman, wife of the late Norman Hoffman passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012. She grew up in Fayetteville, N. C. where her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts were involved in the ownership of the Fayetteville Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
She is survived by her children: Barbara Hoffman Curtis (Donald) of Raleigh, Tina Hoffman Adams, Norman Eric Hoffman (Amy) of Greensboro, and Fredrick Hutaff Hoffman (Dotsi) of Concord as well as five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Susann Hutaff Haskins of Rockville, Maryland. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Louine Bell and William R. Hutaff, loving Step-mother Elizabeth Hutaff Edward; Bradford Adams son-in-law, her two brothers William Hutaff Jr. and James Hutaff.
She attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than sixty years. Never wanting the lime light you would find her in the kitchen, stuffing envelopes, or driving members to their Circle meetings. She loved people and her Wednesday Morning Book Club and her “River Rat” friends were near and dear to her. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and at the Cone Hospital Gift Shoppe and was a member of the N. C. Historical Book Club.
It wasn’t unusual to find her on the golf course, playing bridge, or traveling when she wasn’t taking care of her children and grandchildren. She was always there for her family.
The family wishes to acknowledge the loyal service of her caregivers at Well Spring and especially Gloria Simpson along with two very loyal friends and frequent visitors, Pam Hassenfelt and Russell Sherrill. As she wasn’t able to attend Church they “brought the Church to her.”
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church with a visitation will follow immediately in the Blair Hagan room. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, N. C. 27401, The Salvation Army, P O Box 5310, Greensboro, N. C. 27406 or the charity of your choice.
