Carolyn, the youngest of six children, was born Carolyn Jean Beaver in Durham, NC to the late William Bunn Beaver and Cellia Maie Winberry Beaver. She married the late Richard Lee Campbell in 1954, and they were married for 51 years until his passing. Preceding Carolyn are her sisters Frances “Fran” Ophelia Beaver Cuthbertson and Anne Maie Beaver Helfand, and her brothers Guy Mack Beaver, Kenneth A. “Billy” Beaver and William “Buddy” Bunn Beaver, Jr.
Carolyn is survived by her children Cellia “Celie” Ruth Campbell of Fairfield, CT and Richard Lee Campbell, Jr and his wife Tracey Willis Campbell of Charlotte, NC, their three children, Evan Willis Campbell, Justin Peter Campbell, Nora Maie Campbell, as well as her many beloved nieces & nephews.
Carolyn was raised in Greensboro and graduated from Bessemer High School. She spent most of her career at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in Claims and Human Resources. When she retired, she found her calling at the Women’s Hospital of Greensboro, where she served on the Board and managed the volunteer-run gift shop for over 20 years, continuing her service until the hospital merged with Cone Hospital.
Carolyn’s generosity of time and talents shone through her unwavering dedication to helping others from all walks of life. Her quick wit, passion for Duke basketball, and love of puzzles and games brought joy to those around her. A humble and selfless mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, she touched countless lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Friends may visit with the family after the service at Carolyn’s home. The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to all who compassionately cared for Carolyn at Cone Hospital and Friends Home West. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Faith Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, of which Carolyn was a faithful member.
