Cassandra Foy was born on the beautiful island of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands to Emmeline Tomeau and Alexander Foy on August 30, 1955. A service to celebrate her life will be at 10 AM, Monday, May 12, 2025, at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 600 E Florida St, Greensboro, NC 27406.
As a youngster, Cassandra attended Nisky Elementary School from kindergarten through 6th grade, then Charlotte Amalie High School for grades 7 through 12. From her early years, Cassandra knew that her life’s dream was to become a nurse. She simply wanted to provide care for the ill.
Following high school graduation, Cassandra matriculated at the College of the Virgin Islands, later renamed the University of the Virgin Islands. In 1975, she decided to transfer to North Carolina A&T University. Due to her diligence and unwavering persistence, Cassandra earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing on August 11, 1978. Several years later, she returned to her alma mater and received her Master of Science in Nursing.
She attended numerous seminars, conferences and workshops in order to ensure her knowledge of the most current and best practices in the field of nursing. As testimony to her diligence, Cassandra was certified by the Board Certification Commission on Certificates and Grants in the areas of Certified Emergency Nurse, College Health Nurse and Adult Nurse Practitioner. Over the past fifty years, she has been employed by Wesley Long Hospital, NC A&T State University, L. Richardson Hospital, UNCG Health Center, Advanced Home Health Care, United Healthcare and Guilford County Public Health Department.
Unbelievable, but true, this kind, caring and compassionate lady still found opportunities in her extremely busy schedule for hiking (Sisters in the Woods and 50+ Hiking at Smith Senior Center), power walking, swimming, pickleball, sewing, reading, camping, gardening (home and Hayes-Taylor Y), kayaking and chopping wood (her friends call her the “Pioneer Woman”). She loved to travel, sometimes using the nursing skills to help those she encountered on her journeys. She also was a group leader with BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).
Cassandra is survived by her sisters, Freida Farrow and Marjorie Foy-Ible; brothers, John Tomeau and Melvin Foy; brother-in-law, Carver Farrow Sr., sister-in-law, Paulette Tomeau; nieces, Fay Chinn Bernalyn Tomeau and Yvette Knight; nephews, Carver Farrow II and John Tomeau II. She leaves to mourn her loss members of the Farrow, Tomeau, Foy, Chinn, Thomas, Baptiste and Smith Families.
