

Cecil E. Overbey, Sr. of Greensboro, NC went to be with his Lord on March 27, 2025. Overbey was born in Amherst, VA on October 11th, 1934. but resided most of his life in Greensboro, NC where he attended Greensboro Senior High, married, and worked.
Overbey served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1963 in the 56th Medical Battalion and was an Expert Marksman. Upon his honorable discharge, he began a career in Transportation which lasted over 50 years. During his tenure in transportation, Cecil worked at RC Motor Lines, Johnson Motor Lines, Pilot Freight Carriers and finally ended his career at Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. where he retired as the Director of Container & International Services. During his career he was active in both the Greensboro and Raleigh, NC Traffic Clubs and served several terms as president of these organizations.
Cecil enjoyed hunting, golf, and fellowship with his church families at Glenwood Friends Meeting (47 yrs.), Christ Way Church (10yrs) and most recently at Centenary United Methodist Church. He was the happiest when he was enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren. Cecil was also a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Oasis Shriner.
Overbey was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Moore Overbey of 47 years, parents James D. Overbey, Sr. and Ruth Mayes Overbey and brother, James D. Overbey, Jr. and sister Jean Marie Farabee. He is survived by his two sons: Cecil E. Overbey, Jr. (Chip) and wife Myra R. Overbey, Alan B. Overbey and wife Lovelle B. Overbey and four grandchildren Madison K. Overbey, Cecily O. Overbey and Patrick J. Luth, Fiancée, Tate A. Overbey and Leigh B. Pearcy, Fiancée and Carter P. Overbey.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, April 2nd at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, NC at 3:00 PM. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the Lineberry Center at Hanes Lineberry Elm Chapel.
