A funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30th at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Greensboro conducted by the Reverend Mike Collins. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday, April 29th at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home’s Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Road.
Mr. Bilbro was born in Guilford County on July 5, 1921 son of Walter Larmond Bilbro and Mary Swaim Bilbro. Mr. Bilbro married the former Nell Jones on September 21, 1941. He was a retired engineer with Southern Railway where he followed his father’s profession; the two having more than 90 years service with Southern. Mr. Bilbro was a charter member of Pinecroft-Sedgefield Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his service as a firefighter and traffic officer, he served many years as treasurer of the Fireman’s Pension Fund. Mr. Bilbro was a life-long member of St. John’s United Methodist Church (formerly West End Methodist Church) where he served in numerous positions and taught the men’s Sunday school class for many years.
Mr. Bilbro was proceded in death by his wife of seventy years; a son, Walter Mark Bilbro; a brother, W.L. Bilbro, Jr. and a sister, Mildred Ewing. He is survived by two sons, Charles Richard Bilbro and wife Pamela of Raleigh and James B. Bilbro and wife Mary of Washington; four grandchildren; Timothy R. Bilbro and wife Daniela of Burke, Virginia, Laura Bilbro Berry and husband Todd of Washington, Christopher M. Bilbro and wife Jennifer of Mt. Pleasant, S. C, and Michael A. Bilbro and wife Bridget of Washington; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers; William R. Bilbro and wife Estelle, Robert E. Bilbro and wife Marie; a sister, Anne Bilbro Wright and husband Doug; and his brother-in-law, William C. Jones and wife Lib, all of Greensboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church or to Washington First United Methodist Church’s New Horizon Building Fund.
