Clark Hughes Lane
January 31, 1957 – April 29, 2021
Clark Hughes Lane passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021, at age 64, after a long illness. He was the son of Margery and McKibben Lane, longtime residents of Greensboro.
Clark attended high school at Episcopal in Alexandria, Virginia and college at UNC in Chapel Hill, where he was an avid Tarheel and proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Those who knew and loved Clark knew him by many names and titles; Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Colleague, Mentor, “Zulu” and above all Friend. He had a big heart and generous nature that made him loved by so many in all age groups. He will be greatly missed but his kindness will be long remembered.
Clark was preceded in death by his father, McKibben Lane. He is survived by his mother, Margery Lane; sister, Melissa Thomas; brothers, Van (Lorraine), Frank (Lynda) and Dickson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15th, at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro at 3:00 p.m. Although COVID restrictions have eased, social distancing and masks will be required and entering and exiting the sanctuary will only be at the Greene Street entrance. The family would love your physical presence at the service, but, understand if you have concerns, they would like you to know that your presence and love will be felt through your thoughts and prayers.
Clark always thought Greensboro was such a special place, with so many outstanding and diverse organizations and events. Some of his favorites were the Greensboro Symphony, Guilford College’s Eastern Music Festival and their Bryan Series and he was a strong supporter of the Friends of the Library. The family suggests donations to any of these organizations or to a charity of your choice.
A reception will follow the service at Fountain Manor Club House where friends and family will raise a toast to Clark and share the joys and memories of a very special person.

My family sends their thoughts and prayers to the Lane family today. Clark's passing was a shock and we want to let you know that we are thinking of you. It's been years since I have seen Clark but I have fond memories of running into him at Biscuitville on Battleground Ave and seeing him when we both worked at American Express. The good memories aren't limited to Clark but also include Frank and Dick from their time at Page HS and their friendship with my older brother Martin. Know that we are thinking of your family. Warmest regards, Dave Sykes
