In loving memory of Clifton Charles Lancaster, Jr., affectionately remembered as “Houseman” to family and friends, departed this life on April 10, 2020. He was born to the late Clifton Sr. and Bertha Lancaster on February 16, 1944, in Wheaton, Maryland. He retired in 1992 from Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission after 23 years of service.
He exemplified the heart of God through his works by helping the down trodden, less fortunate, and nurturing his children as well as the children in the neighborhood. He was faithful to the “gift of giving”. Clifton’s children and the neighborhood kids looked forward to their weekly visit to McDonalds, Shakey’s, or Gino’s. His persona was one of a silent teacher, because he led by example.
He was known for his infectious smile and laughter, generous heart, and outspoken personality. Clifton selflessly shared his home with family and friends that needed love and shelter; his life truly revolved around God, family, and friends. In his leisure, he enjoyed watching his Washington Redskins, going fishing, and cooking. He was greatly loved, admired, and respected by all who came to know him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elise Elizabeth Lancaster and seven siblings. He leaves many to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy: one son, Tracey; one daughter, Cassandra; one son-in-law Leslie, grandchildren, one sibling, Sarah Howard (Melvin); one sister-in-law, Peggy Mack (Milton); one brother-in-law, Lawrence Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
MISS ME – BUT LET ME GO
When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little-but not to long; and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me-but let me go! For this is a journey we all must take, and each must go alone. It’s all a part of the Master’s plan; A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart, go to friends we know, and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me-but let me go!
