Cornelius B. Owens

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 25th, 10:00 a.m., at Well Spring Retirement Community Richardson Auditorium.

Neal was born on November 8, 1927 in Fountain, NC to Claude L. and Gertrude B. (Boney) Owens.

Neal graduated from Tarboro High School in 1946. He married Barbara M. Williford on June 17, 1951, in Farmville, NC and came to Virginia Beach in 1951 to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He worked for Metropolitan for 34 years. After a short retirement, he went to work as the Deputy Commissioner of Revenue for the City of Virginia Beach in 1986. He retired from the city in 1997. Neal was very active in his community. Some of his activities included being appointed to the Virginia Beach City Council and School Board, President of the Jaycees, Chief of the Virginia Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Chairman of the Virginia Beach Music Festival and Captain of the Khedive Temple Shrine Color Guard and an active member of the Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. His family and friends always appreciated his generous nature and keen sense of humor. He will be missed dearly.

In addition to his parents, Neal was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; sisters, Hazel and Eloise and his twin brother Claude.

He is survived by his sons, Neal Owens and wife Beverly of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX and Claude Owens and wife Leslie of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren, Kristen Williams of Beaumont, TX; Beth Klossen of Lewisville, TX; Ashley Owens of Greensboro, NC; Sam Owens of Wilmington, NC; and Sarah Owens of Wilmington, NC; two great grandchildren, Hayden Williams and Noah Williams, both of Beaumont, TX.
