It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a well-lived life that we announce the passing of David Thomas Crompton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. David passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026, after dealing with dementia for several years and bravely fighting a cardiovascular-related illness for the last six months. He was 80 years old. David was born on January 3, 1946, in Tuxedo, New York, to George and Eva Crompton. He was welcomed into the world as a beacon of joy and would continue to light up the lives of everyone he encountered throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva, and his sister Carol Creps. David's life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and an insatiable curiosity about the world. He spent his formative years in East Brunswick, New Jersey, where he graduated from East Brunswick High School in 1963. He pursued his passion for science, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Gettysburg College in 1967. His thirst for knowledge led him to earn his Master's Degrees from both the U.S. Naval War College and Salve Regina College in 1989. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1993, achieving the rank of captain. His naval career was marked by global travels and exemplary service, culminating in his final station at the Pentagon. His dedication to his country was matched only by his commitment to his family and community. On August 30, 1980, David married the love of his life, Amy Pappalardo, in a beautiful ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island. For forty-six cherished years, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Karyn and Kimberly, imbuing them with the same values of kindness and integrity that David exemplified. After retiring from the Navy, David embarked on a fulfilling second career as a high school biology teacher at Liberty High School, where he worked for 14 years until his retirement in 2008. Beloved by his colleagues and students alike, David was known for his jovial temperament and his knack for weaving humor into his lessons, often with a signature dad joke. A man of many talents, David's hobbies were as diverse as his interests. He found immense joy in tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, always curious about who might be sneaking the cherry tomatoes (a mystery culprit later identified as his daughter Kim!). His skill as a woodworker was evident in the shelves he built and the clocks he lovingly restored. David's legacy lives on in his surviving family members: his devoted wife Amy; his daughters Karyn and Kimberly, along with her husband Steven Heitter; his cherished granddaughters, Jayden and Alana; his sister Ginny Price and her husband Floyd; and his dear niece and nephews, Cindy Taylor, David Creps, Chris Price, Josh Price, Chris Mierswa, and Mark Mierswa. David will be remembered for his affable nature and his ability to bring people together over a good cup of coffee, sharing stories that warmed the heart and inspired the soul. His kindness and generosity touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family will receive friends and loved ones on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Hines Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401, where everyone will gather to honor his memory and share in the stories and laughter that defined his life. He will be laid to rest on Thursday, May 7th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at the National Military Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in David's name to the Alzheimer's Association, reflecting his enduring commitment to helping others. David Thomas Crompton's spirit will forever be cherished, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing his legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those he left behind.
