David Milton Gaadt, 80, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023. Born January 23, 1943, in Erie Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George and Doris Gaadt. David attended the Columbus College of Art & Design where he met his wife Carol. They had two daughters, Stephanie & Michelle, before moving to Atlanta, GA. He worked for multiple advertising agencies over the years before heading out on his own to freelance in Illustration. That is how he ended up in Greensboro, NC when one of his Art Reps and good friends convinced him to move. This is where his son David was born. He worked out of the house for many years as well as different studio spaces around town. In his later years, he painted portraits, sometimes for pay and sometimes just because he wanted to give something of himself to others. He also taught painting classes out of his home.
One of his last gifts to the world was when he painted portraits of the Newtown school kids because he felt called by God to do so. On the back of each piece he put a quote - “Someone remembers, someone cares, your name is whispered in someone's prayers”. That is the kind of man he was, selfless & kind.
David was passionate about, Jesus, his family, his friends, and helping others. A lover of Art, Music, Movies, German Food, Dark Beer, a good Doughnut, and as you might know…made one heck of an Omelette. Golfing, Tennis, Jet skiing, Amusement Parks, Air or Car Shows, he was always up for an adventure.
He was loved, admired & respected by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, George Gaadt and granddaughters, Victoria & Erika Gaadt. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Stephanie Gaadt and her husband, Bill Wenner, Michelle Gaadt; son, David Gaadt and his wife, Alison; brother, Tom Gaadt and his wife, Judy; sister-in-law, Ann Gaadt, and multiple nieces and nephews.
The family will gather with friends Saturday, March 11 from 2 p.m. to 4p.m., at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice or simply pay it forward and take care of someone in need.
