OBITUARY

David James Martin

September 19, 1973January 21, 2020

Dave was an artist, a skateboarder, a writer, a printer, a musician. He had a thousand stories and a wicked sense of humor. It is impossible to distill him into a brief paragraph, but he can be defined in part by the people whose lives he touched and by the places he called home: he was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, and a friend. He was a proud Midwesterner, through and through.

He was born in Willard, Ohio on September 19th, 1973 and he left this dimension from, as he would say, "North Cackalacka," on January 20th, 2020.

We miss him with a grief almost as immense as our love. We remember with tears and with aching hearts, but we also remember with laughter—and the hope that, in time, the laughter will overtake the tears.

As Dave would want to say: "Don't cry. I probably didn't like you anyway."

I met this zany guy at 14, I had no intention of letting him go so soon. Jim Elliot, missionary to the Equador jungles, said "wherever you are, be all there"
Dave taught me a lot of stuff: some good, mostly not so good...one of those was being all there. If Dave had a hankerin' for something, he was all about it. Wether it was a skateboard trick or a guitar riff, or a painting or sketch or a story or just helping a friend, he was all in!
Dave also taught me about being an individual in spite of what anybody else thought about you. Our young lives were saturated with punk music and non-conformist ideals. Most people didn't get it, but what was at the heart of it was finding out who we were and being all in.
Jim Elliot also said this: "I seek not a long life, but a full one like you Lord Jesus" No on can deny that David James Martin did not live life to its fullest...just sucks that he had to split on us so soon.
I enjoyed every second that I was afforded to spend with you my brother! Save me a session on the golden curbs.
