Heaven gained its most loyal and enthusiastic “Buckeye” April 21, 2025. Born July 6, 1944, David Rex Tracht, a native of Dover, Ohio, most recently resided in Summerfield, NC with his wife Jacque Hill.
Rex graduated from THE Ohio State University in 1966, where he was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Rex favored his Ohio State Football though he loved all high school and collegiate level football games, world travel, reading, hiking, hunting trips in Northern Canada, and of course enjoying time with family and friends. He was a past member of The National Guard and the Greensboro Optimist Club.
Following graduation Rex soon began his sales career in the Flat Glass Industry at Libby Owens Ford, later to be known as Pilkington Glass and now as Nippon Sheet Glass or NSG. After more than forty years of service, having resided in Seattle, WA; Buffalo, NY; Ellenville, NY; Downingtown, PA; Duluth, GA; Sylvania, OH; and Greensboro, NC, Rex retired from the glass industry in 2014. His service territory spanned our eastern seaboard from as far south as Marietta, Georgia, westward to Johnson City, TN, encompassing Mid-Atlantic states, all the way north to Toronto, Montreal, and Riviera de Loup, Canada. His mighty friendship base is widespread. Those folks will fondly recall Rex’s generous nature, his mischievous ways and infamous late night Rexy shenanigans.
Rex’s treasured daughter and grandsons will miss running endless errands with PopPopRex while stopping for Egg McMuffins on the way home; Hootie Man, seal calls, goofy faces, movie outings, and spitballs, though the fun of dodging cold water being thrown on them in the shower and running away from ice cubes being put down their backs, maybe not so much. Rex’s multiple daily phone calls to family with his inevitable questions of “What did you do today,” “What did you get on your exam,” “Did you get a job yet,” and “How much money do you have in the bank?” were part of the more recent norm with these boys. Family closeness and responsibility were important and meant everything to Rex.
Lovingly proud and satisfied now with seeing both of these “grands” in professional careers, a life highlight for Rex was seeing them graduate Penn State University. These three guys enjoyed the Big 10 football rivalry between OSU and PSU. Rex had a standing “Burger King Whopper” bet with each of the boys that THE Ohio State would beat Penn State in football. Since 2015 to this day, Rex only had to pay up once.
Enjoying worldwide travel, Rex introduced his family to some of his favorite places including The Northern Rockies, The Grand Canyon, London, Cancun, Alaska, Spain, France, Croatia, Manchu Pichu, the Galapagos, and even driving Ferraris in Italy.
Rex is survived by his second wife, Jacquelyn (Jacque) Hill; daughter, Mary Beth Scott (Steve), and two grandsons, Jake (Nina) and Ryan Scott; brother-in-law, Hamilton Wong; nephew, Adam Wong (Nalini) also by his aunt Wanda Matteson, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Betty Ann (Matteson) and David Homer Tracht, his first wife Jacqueline (Jackie) Lorenz Tracht, their son Davie, and Rex’s sister, Gail Wong.
The Tracht family is thankful for the 5+ years of excellent care given by Elizabeth, Jeffery, Tyler, Dina, Lakeisha, Kayla, Stephanie, Sarah, Miranda, Jessica, Jeannie, and Sequoia as well as the myriad staff at Home Instead Senior Care and that of High Point Hospice of the Piedmont, all of which allowed Rex to remain in the comfort of his home surround.
A celebration of Rex's life will be held at Hanes Lineberry Funeral home at 515 N Elm St, Greensboro, NC on April 26 at 2:00PM.
Wherever you are that day, please consider wearing your finest Scarlet and Gray to send Rex off in Buckeye style! In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Rex’s name to the cureCADASIL organization. Information may be found at https://cureCADASIL.org
