David Bennett Shaw, Jr., was born in Astoria, Long Island to David Bennett and Lillian DuBois Shaw, Sr., on December 24, 1932 and welcomed home by his Savior, Jesus Christ on April 25, 2022. His life will be celebrated at 1 PM, Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church, Greensboro. The family will receive guests beginning at 12 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
When David was 17 years old, he joined the US Marine Corps, and served honorably during the Vietnam and Korean Wars and retired after 20 years. The military way of life never left him, as he was always organized and appreciative of order in all aspects of life. His second retirement was from Neal Manufacturing as a superintendent. David was a quiet man, who loved Christ first, supported and cared for his family and whose faith was the cornerstone of how he conducted his life. He worshipped for many years at Bethel Baptist Church where he lead the Men’s Bible Class for over 35 years and recently attended El Bethel Presbyterian Church in Eden and served in the choir. David was a member of American Legion Post #386 and the “master” of hot dog and chili suppers and Shiloh Community Gun Club of Eden. His family will continue to share stories of his “hottest chow chow”, Brunswick Stew (recipe never to be shared) and love of gardening.
Surviving are his loving wife, Nellie Moore Shaw; sons, Philip (Isolde) Shaw of Germany and Gary (Tracy) Shaw of Asheboro; daughter, Janet (Sammy) Adkins of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and sisters, Janet Campbell and Edna Visconti. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death are his first wife of more than fifty years, Grace Lorine “Red” Shaw and son David L. Shaw, both in 2011.
