David Andrew Wadford, 84, passed away at his home in Jamestown after years of declining health and complications from Parkinson’s disease. The family will receive guests during a reception from 1 to 3 PM, Monday, November 19, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield chapel.
David was a native and life-time resident of Guilford County, one of two sons of the late Glenn H. and Maggie Bennett Wadford and spent the majority of his working years as a mechanical engineer for Richardson-Merrill (Vicks)/Proctor & Gamble where he retired in his early 70’s. He and Nancy Forrest “Chic” Wadford were married 57 years until her passing in 2012. As Nancy was more the extrovert, David’s quiet demeanor offered a beautiful balance to their union.
David excelled in baseball and football in his youth and bowling, tennis and golf later in life. He particularly enjoyed golf and was a member of Jamestown Park Golf Course where he worked part-time after his retirement. He was an expert craftsman in golf club repair which he did from his home shop. His family will remember his strong work ethic and his need to stay busy. He forged lasting friendships during his working years and enjoyed their comradery during retirement. His love and faith in Jesus Christ was his sustaining force through life. When David entered Heaven there is no doubt his guardian angel greeted him saying,” Whew, David, that was some ride!”, and if Heaven has a retirement plan for guardian angels, it was well deserved!
He is survived by his children, Dave Wadford Jr., and wife Cindy of Chapel Hill, Mitch Wadford of Jamestown and Sandra Farabee of VA; grandchildren, Chad Craighead, Darren Farabee and Drew Wadford; and brother Jimmy Wadford and wife Martha of Summerfield.
