

Donald Ray Monroe, 86, a resident of High Point passed away on Tuesday, June 22nd 2021 . He will be remembered as a kind, generous, and patient father and friend. He was born in High Point the son of the late Lucian Gunter (L.G.) Monroe and Chappie Patterson Monroe. He was preceded in death by his wife Brigitte Scherping Monroe in 1983.
Don graduated from High Point High School (High Point Central). He received a BS in Mathematics from Wake Forest University, and his MS in Mathematics from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor,Michigan.
From 1958 to 1969 he worked with the Integon Corp. in Winston Salem where he was a Systems Analyst. From 1969 to 1985 he worked with the American Express International Banking Corp. In Frankfurt, Germany and New York City where he was the Assistant Vice President and Project Manager of Global Operations and Systems. From 1985-1987 he was a mathematics teacher at T.W. Andrews High School in High Point. And from 1987-1999 he taught at Guilford Technical Community College.
In retirement Don spent much of his time in New York and the Philadelphia area visiting with close friends George Carroll and David and Deana Duncan. As a lifelong supporter of theater, he spent much of his time in retirement enjoying and supporting theater productions in New York, NY. Don also was a long time season ticket holder and avid fan of Wake Forest football and basketball. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church for many years.
Don is survived by his sons Gregory Monroe of Wilmington, and Michael Monroe of High Point.
A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Sedgefield Memorial Mausoleum at Guilford Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Don Newsome.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don’s memory to a local theater of your choice.
