Donald Ray Williams, 84, a resident of Greensboro, passed away on Wednesday April 7, 2021 at the Hospice Home of High Point. He was born July 20, 1936 in Spray (Rockingham County), the son of Leslie Kirby and Fairie Mae Bateman Williams.
Don was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy after high school. Completing his tour of duty, Don went to National Business College, where he met his future wife Lillie T. Jenkins from Independence, VA. Following graduation and marriage, Don enjoyed a successful career in accounting and managerial positions in several industries. Upon retirement, he enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and watching his lifelong favorite team, the Boston Red Sox, play baseball.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. Throughout his life, many people told of the positive impact he made on them, or their family.
Don is survived by his wife, Lillie Jenkins Williams of the home; two sons, Grant Williams and his wife Mary of Raleigh, Gary Williams and his wife Sharon of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Liberty Williams of Boston, MA, Emily Williams serving in the U.S. Air Force, Olivia Williams of Raleigh, Jenna Williams of Apex; and his sister, Katie Williams Setliff of Greenville.
To honor Don’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service.
