

Doris Guill Brown of Owings, Maryland daughter of Lawrence and Anna Mae Guill, Greensboro NC, passed away on Oct. 14, 2024. She is survived by her husband Larry W. Brown of Owings Maryland and sister Lynette Sicola, Greensboro, NC and her husband Chuck Sicola, of Greensboro, NC She was a wonderful mother to her two children, Wendy Matthews and her husband Ray Matthews of Hudson, OH, and Walter Brown and his wife Melinda Brown, of Gaithersburg, MD. She was also a loving Mamaw to two grandchildren, Jeffrey Matthews of Ferndale, MI and Holly Matthews of Hudson, OH
Doris was a graduate of Greensboro High School, class of 1958, where she played flute in the Greensboro Band and Orchestra under the direction of Herbert Hazelman. She fondly remembered her time in the band, especially their performance at the Mid-West Band Clinic in Chicago in 1954. She received her degree in elementary teaching from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1961. After graduation, she moved to Maryland with her husband and taught elementary education for several years. She continued her love for the flute by teaching private lessons throughout her life. She was an active member of several churches, including College Place Methodist Church, in Greensboro, NC and North Beach Union Church, in North Beach, MD. Along with her husband, she was part of the Community Chorus, which raised funds for hospice in Calvert County, MD. Doris had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed sharing jokes and performing stand-up comedy routines for her family.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday day, November 2, 2024 at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 High Point Rd. Greensboro, NC 27409. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or a hospice of your choice.
