

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 11:00 am, at Friends Homes West with Dr. Steve Pressley officiating. A private interment will follow.
Doris was born in Winston Salem, NC on October 30, 1910, to the late George and Lula Whitaker Stewart. She was a graduate of Greensboro High School (Grimsley High School) and North Carolina College for Women (UNCG). She retired from the Greensboro City Schools in 1972, having worked in the business office from 1931-1943 and then as secretary to the Superintendent from 1943-1972.
Doris was the first president and charter member, Greensboro Educational Secretaries in 1953. It was the first organization in the history of the Greensboro City Schools, it was later changed to Greensboro Association of Educational Office Personnel. She was an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and First Baptist Church since 1923. She was a founding member of the Education Association
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Albert Humphries; brother, J. William Stewart and sister, Georgie S. Cline; Doris is survived by her nieces, Barbara Cline Flowers of Wilson, Linda Cline Guenther of Rio Vista, CA; nephew George B. Cline of Los Altos, CA; and a host of great and great- great nieces and nephews.
