It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy “Dot” Halstead Stone, 94, on July 5, 2025. Although deeply saddened by this loss, we joyfully celebrate her life well-lived as her soul is welcomed in the awaiting arms of our Lord.
Born on June 3, 1931, to Evelyn Annie “Nan” and Ralph Halstead in Manchester, England, Dorothy grew into a kind and gracious woman, molded by her experiences growing up during World War II and post-war England. She would go on to meet and marry USAF Sgt. Raymond Printess Stone, stationed in England during the Korean War, on September 12, 1954. Later, she moved to America with her small, new family in 1957.
As a British woman, Dorothy often regaled her family with stories from her youth, but she also proudly called North Carolina home. Dot loved the simple joys of everyday life like doing puzzles, petting cute animals, sipping a warm cup of coffee, tending to flowers, knitting, and adding to her gnome collection. She was an avid patron of the public library and lover of mystery novels. Throughout her life, Dot was a hard-working and beloved employee and co-worker of Bates Nightwear, Cone Mills, the Greensboro Coliseum, and Greensboro Visitors Center. When she was not engaged with work or hobbies, she participated in many church functions and was a member of the Greensboro Garden Club and “The Golden Oldies.”
Dorothy was a fantastic mother, amazing grandmother, great-grandmother, and newly-made great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her three sons, Gary, Mark, and Mitch; their spouses; her six grandchildren, Audrey, Emma, Jacob, Alexis, Brittney, and Joshua; her four great-grandchildren, Mia, Zoie, Brendan, and Noah; and great-great-grandson, Levi James.
Friends and family are invited for a graveside service at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 N. O’Henry Boulevard Greensboro, NC, 27405 on July 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM where we will wish her all our love as she spends eternity in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
