

Memorial service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. His family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m., with the memorial service to follow.
Doug was born on April 11, 1950, in Wilmington, NC. He served honorably in the United States Air Force and retired in 1975. Doug graduated from Guilford College with a degree in Police Administration in 1983. Doug became a City of Greensboro Police Officer on October 16, 1976, where he worked in patrol, crime prevention, criminal investigations and achieved a rank of Corporal. He retired on November 30, 2001, but continued to serve the city as a hire back for the police department.
Doug was an avid antiquer who loved glassware, antique furniture, unique finds, and making deals. He enjoyed his family, his dog Lucy, fishing, baseball, and watching the Atlanta Braves and the Duke Blue Devils.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Russ, mother Ann Russ, and a grandson, Emmanuell Pulliam.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rhonda. His children John Russ, Dawn Russ, Gene Bragg and wife Melissa, Elizabeth Hines, and Douglas “DJ” Russ II. As well as grandchildren, Shainna, Jonathan, Matthew, Heather, Brandon, Jesse, Glori, Vincent, Declan, Henry, Benjamin, Gwendolyn, Malachi, Kayden, Vanessa, and Elizabeth “Mo”.
