Our dear Edith passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024. She spent the days prior surrounded by the love of her family. Edith was born on July 27, 1923, to Angelina and Andrew Andriola. She was a loving daughter, beloved sister and adored aunt. Born in New Jersey, she grew up in New York City and lived most of her life in New York. Edith loved all things Manhattan had to offer including Broadway Plays, the New York Museums and Fashion. By far her favorite was time spent enjoying meals with family and friends at restaurants all over the city experiencing all types of cuisine.
Edith worked for over fifty years at a family owned business. She was able to see it grow from its humble beginnings as it became one of the largest paper recycling companies on the East Coast. As the company expanded, Edith supervised the growing office staff. In 1998, at age 75, she retired from the company, which in this time became her second family.
In 1999, Edith moved to Greensboro to be near her sisters and their families. She became a member of the Italian-American Club, The Red Hat Society and Shepherd's Center of Greensboro where she made many lovely friends. Edith was also a parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and was devoted to the Blessed Mother. Auntie E as her nieces and nephews knew her, treated them as if they were her own grandchildren, spending holidays together, attending sporting events, or even just calling them to say hi. She always wanted to make sure they were happy above anything else, encouraging them to be independent and enjoy life.
In addition to her parents, Edith was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Andriola and John Andriola, and two nephews, Brian Andriola and Andrew Bellenkes. She is survived by her two sisters, Dorothy Angiolino and Barbara Bellenkes, as well as many nieces and nephews and several special cousins. Edith's family will miss her sweet lady-like personality.
The family would like to thank Edith's very special and loving caregiver of several years, Sally and also another loving caregiver of more recent years, Ella.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edith's memory to: St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Road, Greensboro, NC 27410 or Franciscan Center, 233 N. Greene St., Greensboro, NC 27401.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 21, 2024, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
