Edna Mae “Winkie” Mohoney (Mema) was born March 5, 1944 in Rockville, Maryland to "Mama" Florence and Robert D. Hebron Sr. She is the youngest of six. Edna was preceded in death by her husband Ralph C. Mohoney Sr.; sons James Mohoney III, Ralph C Mohoney Jr., and son-in law John Graves; brothers Daniel “Tuck” Hebron, Robert “Bobby” Hebron Jr, Lorenzo Mahoney Sr., and Jessie Mahoney; sisters Christine “Chrissy” McRoy, Doris Roberson, and Yvonne Hebron.
Winkie received her formal education in Montgomery County Public Schools Systems. She traveled the world as a military wife, beginning her long career in the health care industry. After settling in Greensboro NC, Edna finally retired in 2004 from Moses Cone healthcare system.
Edna enjoyed spending time with her family. In Rockville, she and her sisters were known as “Those Hebron girls” and enjoyed playing softball. If you heard them talk, they where the true “Golden Girls”, with Winkie being Dorothy. She loved being with family above everything else. If it wasn’t sitting down to a game of spades or kanassis, she was running the board on some dominoes and could be seen front center winning with ease. Winkie was know for her cooking. Those famous cheesecakes, mac n cheese, peach cobbler, and dare we say fried chicken. Outside of the kitchen, Edna enjoyed crocheting and puzzles.
In 1959, Edna entered into holy matrimony with Ralph C. Mohoney Sr. and those 62 years brought us the “MOhoney” as we know it. Edna leaves behind daughters Vicki Graves (John), and Sharon Mohoney (David); sons Brian Mohoney, and Right-On Mohoney (Bridgette); bonus children Lisa Walker, Greg Boykin Jr., Craig Boykin (Dani), Sheree Rogers (Jeremy), Deja Eini (Chayim), Robert Mohoney; brother-in-law, James Roberson and sister-in-law, Leslie Mahoney. She was a beloved Grandma/Mema to 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Edna’s guidance, love, and voice of reason will truly be missed. The void she left can never be filled. She will forever be the lady of our life.
