Ed graduated from Lorain (Ohio) High School. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945 as an Air Combat Crew member.
After returning from military service, he attended Purdue University on the GI bill. In September of 1947, he married Vivien Kelley. He graduated from Purdue with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950 and immediately accepted a job with Blue Bell Incorporated in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Ed rose through the ranks of Blue Bell, serving in many cities and states and in various divisions of Blue Bell. He was named President, CEO and Chairman of the Board in 1982 and was instrumental in managing the merger between Blue Bell and VF Corporation. Following the merger, Ed was one of the founders of Anderson Bauman Tourtellot Vos & Company and enjoyed over two decades of his retirement years sharing his business expertise helping distressed businesses back to success.
He was actively involved as a trustee of Guilford College, Lees-McRae College, the Children’s Home Society and many more organizations.
Mr. Bauman is survived by his wife, Vivien Bauman and three sons, Jeff and wife Mary Alice, Jim, and Kim and wife Tricia, and grandchildren, Mark and Mike Bauman.
The Celebration of his life will be Friday, April 28, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, NC.
