

Ed was born August 4, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Louis and Ida Bellenkes. He graduated from Tilden High School, where he played second base for the baseball team that won the City Championship at Ebbets Field. After graduation, he served his country in WWII and the Korean War. He received his Undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Economics from Brooklyn College. In 1955, he went to work at Western Electric in Manhattan, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Andriola. They married in April of 1963. In 1964 Ed was transferred to Washington, DC where he worked on the Apollo Moon Project. In 1972, work moved the family further south to Greensboro. Along with their children, Ed and Barbara met lifelong friends in their new neighborhood. Ed retired from Lucent Technologies in 1989, after 34 years of service.
Ed and Barbara enjoyed a fun-packed retirement, with many adventures traveling with friends. One of Ed’s greatest joys was spending time with his five grandchildren, and watching them play baseball, soccer, volleyball, and football.
Ed is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in law, Bill and Temmy Bellenkes, of California. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 52 years, his son and daughter-in law Andrew and Kathy Bellenkes of Greensboro, his daughter and son-in law Sandra and Michael McLoone of Charleston, SC, five grandchildren, Jackson, Virginia, and Grey Bellenkes, Dylan and Meghan McLoone, and special in-laws Pros and Dorothy Angiolino and Edith Andriola, loving nieces and nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street.
